Person

Ryan Buell

Researcher; labour illusion

Researcher, co-author with Michael Norton of the 2011 "labour illusion" studies (search engines showing visible effort, and a dating-matching site showing its matching criteria), both finding that visibly displayed effort raises how much people value the resulting output — even when the underlying result is identical either way. Given as "Ryan Burrell" in the episode audio; corrected here to the real researcher. See Norton Buell Labour Illusion Studies.
