Curse of Knowledge
communication empathy marketing
Once someone knows something well, they find it very hard to imagine what it's like not to know it — leading marketers and organisations to assume their audience shares their own depth of knowledge, context, and emotional investment. Maddy Croucher names this the single most common mistake she sees across private, public, and third-sector clients: communicating what the organisation cares about rather than what the audience cares about. Her recommended fix is deliberately simple — define the specific behaviour you want to change using who/what/when/where/why from the audience's side before designing any message.
