Charisma — expressiveness, animation, physical engagement — is another "soft" messenger trait that increases persuasive power. One measurable component is hand gestures: an analysis of thousands of TED talks found the most-viewed talks used roughly 465 hand gestures over 18 minutes, nearly double the 272 used in an average talk, with more animated, physically expressive speakers reliably outperforming stiffer ones (see Van Edwards TED Talk Hand Gesture Study).
