Concept
Best-Self Onboarding (Identity-Based Induction)
onboarding identity retention
Inviting new hires, during induction, to reflect on and share a time they were "acting in the way they were born to act" — a moment they felt genuinely successful and authentic — measurably improves later retention and performance, more than conventional process-and-policy-focused onboarding. Bruce Daisley cites researcher Dan Cable's redesign of the induction process at Indian technology company Wipro as the source demonstration (see Dan Cable Wipro Best-Self Onboarding Study).
The mechanism Daisley describes is that this kind of induction lets new employees feel able to "bring their full selves to work" from day one, rather than suppressing quirks and personal history to fit in — reducing the friction that normally drives early attrition.
